Weaknesses Are Just Strengths Not Yet Mastered.
Focus on your strengths instead of weaknesses.
We spend a lot of our time pointing out our own flaws and listening to that inside voice of self doubt.
We are our own toughest critics, and we often are most unforgiving towards ourselves. Why do we do this? Because we are humans, and we have egos.
How do you think you would live your life if you believed that you are exactly who you are meant to be in this moment. You haven't missed anything, you have already so much value, and you have a path in front of you where endless potential lives. You have so much to offer this world, your unique essence is exactly who you should be and is perfect for what you came here to do and learn.
There are no mistakes, you are not missing traits, and no there is nothing wrong with you.
In this modern culture we are bombarded with information and inevitable comparison. You no longer even have to leave your house to compare yourself as social media brings plenty of opportunities for that! Not to mention that at school, work and in a lot of the self-improvement space the focus is mostly on how to improve our weaknesses. So we go to work to improve our perceived flaws not from a place of love but from a place of inadequacy. Though it is important to work on skills that we require, I think we need to adjust our thinking around what we consider to be weakness.
What if instead of looking at areas of improvement as weaknesses you looked at them as skills you have not yet mastered. Weakness implies lack, and that the skill you desire may not be available to you. I am about to drop a truth bomb on you that is so simple yet so reassuring!
Your capabilities have gotten you this far and that is enough. However, for you to change and go to the next level you must learn new capabilities, that is not weakness.
It's not about other people being better than you, or you not being smart enough. Others just have already learned this skill, and you can too. Simple. As. That.
When I first consider the truth in that statement, I began to understand the web of lies I believed about my own potential. You may be doing the same, believing awful lies about your abilities completely denying your majesty! If there are things you consider a weakness I encourage you to adjust the way you're looking at it and be brave - learn something new, practice it, then teach it!
Let's take it one step further. Why not acknowledge the skills you have and become the very best at what you already do well? Why not use your skillset you have already to improve what you have in the past considered a weakness? You have mad skills already that can help you get where you want to go next, time to bring them to the party.
Ask yourself how you can use more of your strengths every day to make the world even better. You came in with your skill set for a reason, you have got to contribute that which only YOU can contribute.
How can you bring more of your special YOU-ness into more of your life at work, at home, in your relationships?
What are some skills you are going to master in 2020? Let me know in the comments below.
p.s. Stop giving those nasty thoughts so much power, and instead focus on what we do well and what we can contribute.
